Interdisciplinary artist, designer and researcher

Working at the intersection of performance, artificial intelligence, immersive media and living systems.

Artist Statement

My artistic practice explores the shifting relationships between bodies, technologies and living systems. Working across performance, immersive media, artificial intelligence and speculative design, I create experimental environments where biological, digital and performative realities intersect, overlap and continuously transform one another.

Rather than treating technology as a tool for producing images or objects, I approach it as an active participant in artistic processes. Artificial intelligence, virtual environments and computational systems become collaborators in investigating how forms emerge, evolve and acquire meaning through interaction. I am interested not in technological innovation itself, but in the new conditions of perception, embodiment and coexistence that technologies make possible.

The body remains at the centre of my practice. I understand it as a dynamic interface through which relationships between the human, the technological and the more-than-human can be experienced and negotiated. Performance, immersive installations and material experimentation allow me to investigate the body as a site of transformation rather than a stable or isolated entity.

Increasingly, my work focuses on processes of translation—between virtual and physical environments, computational models and biological growth, speculative concepts and material forms. Instead of designing fixed objects, I create situations in which forms develop through interaction, adaptation and emergence. In this way, artistic practice becomes a space for exploring how future modes of living, sensing and creating might evolve through collaboration rather than control.

My projects are not intended to provide definitive answers. They construct experimental conditions in which uncertainty, transformation and coexistence become productive forces. Through artistic research, I seek to imagine new relationships between bodies, intelligent technologies and living matter, while questioning conventional distinctions between the natural and the artificial, the physical and the virtual, the designed and the grown.

Anna Syczewska is an interdisciplinary artist, designer, researcher and educator working at the intersection of performance, artificial intelligence, immersive media and living systems. She holds a PhD in Art. Her artistic practice combines artistic research, speculative design and emerging technologies to investigate new forms of embodiment, transformation and coexistence between biological and computational systems.

Her projects span performance, immersive installations, digital fashion, virtual environments and AI-driven generative processes. Through experimental artistic methodologies, she explores how bodies, technologies and living matter continuously reshape one another, developing new forms of materiality, perception and performative experience.

She is an Assistant Professor and Vice-Dean for Student Affairs at the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies, SWPS University in Kraków, where she teaches sculpture, immersive technologies, virtual reality and interdisciplinary design. She also leads postgraduate studies in multidisciplinary fashion design and develops educational programmes integrating artistic practice with emerging technologies.

Anna Syczewska is a co-founder of FUTUREMODE – European Fashion Innovation Hub and serves as a member of the artistic direction team of the International AI Art Biennale. Her recent artistic research focuses on Symbiotic Couture, an ongoing research platform investigating relationships between artificial intelligence, morphogenesis, living systems and the performative body.

Teaching

I view teaching as an extension of my artistic research. Rather than transmitting fixed knowledge, I create experimental learning environments where artistic practice, emerging technologies and critical inquiry intersect. My approach encourages students to develop their own methodologies by combining conceptual thinking with material experimentation and technological exploration.

I believe that contemporary art and design education should move beyond disciplinary boundaries. My teaching integrates performance, sculpture, immersive media, artificial intelligence and speculative design, enabling students to navigate the increasingly interconnected relationships between physical, digital and biological realities. Learning becomes a process of experimentation, collaboration and discovery rather than the acquisition of predefined skills.

Areas of Teaching

Artistic Research

Developing practice-based methodologies that connect artistic experimentation with critical reflection and interdisciplinary inquiry.

Immersive Technologies

Exploring virtual reality, spatial computing and interactive environments as creative tools for artistic expression and research.

Sculpture & Spatial Practice

Investigating materiality, form and the body through analogue and digital approaches to three-dimensional practice.

Speculative Design & AI

Encouraging experimental design processes that integrate artificial intelligence, generative systems and emerging technologies within artistic practice.

Current Academic Roles

SWPS University

Assistant Professor
Vice-Dean for Student Affairs

Workshops

My workshops extend the principles of my artistic research into collaborative learning environments. By combining performance, immersive technologies, artificial intelligence and material experimentation, they encourage participants to develop original research questions through creative practice rather than predefined outcomes.
