From digital morphogenesis to living garments.
Symbiotic Couture is an ongoing artistic research project investigating how generative models developed through artificial intelligence can be translated into biological structures, performative garments and living material systems.
Rather than using AI as a tool for image generation, the project approaches it as a collaborative research partner capable of modelling processes of emergence, growth and transformation. These computational models become the starting point for experiments that extend beyond the digital environment into biomaterials, living organisms and performative situations.
Situated at the intersection of art, design, biology and emerging technologies, Symbiotic Couture proposes the garment not as a static object but as an evolving system—one capable of continuous transformation through interactions between artificial intelligence, living matter and the human body.

RESEARCH FRAMEWORK
Research Questions:
How can generative growth models developed through artificial intelligence be translated into biological systems?
Can garments become living, evolving entities rather than manufactured objects?
How do computational and biological processes co-create new forms of materiality?
What new forms of embodiment emerge when living systems interact with the performative body?
How can artistic research contribute to understanding relationships between artificial intelligence and living matter?
RESEARCH THEMES
Artificial Intelligence
AI as a collaborator in modelling generative processes rather than producing finished designs.
Morphogenesis
Growth understood as a dynamic process connecting computational simulation with biological development.
Living Systems
Investigating microorganisms, biomaterials and biological processes as active participants in artistic creation.
Material Translation
Translating digital structures into physical and biological matter.
Embodiment
The body becomes a site where computational, biological and performative systems intersect.
Performative Design
Garments function as dynamic systems activated through interaction, growth and performance.
Symbiotic Couture develops through an interdisciplinary ecosystem of artistic research spanning artificial intelligence, digital fashion, immersive environments, performative practice and biological experimentation. Rather than existing as an isolated project, it remains in continuous dialogue with parallel artistic investigations.
CONCEPT
Symbiotic Couture proposes a new understanding of fashion as a living, evolving system situated between artificial intelligence, biological matter and human embodiment. Instead of designing garments as finished objects, the project investigates processes through which form emerges, adapts and transforms over time.
The research begins with original fashion designs that serve as training material for artificial intelligence models. Rather than replacing the designer, AI analyses these formal languages to generate models of morphogenesis and structural growth. These computational explorations subsequently inform experiments involving biomaterials, microorganisms and performative prototypes, creating a continuous dialogue between digital simulation and living processes.
In this context, the garment is understood as a research environment rather than a product - a dynamic interface where technology, biology and embodied experience become inseparable.

Reflection
Presented Symbiotic Couture in The Code of the Body, a group exhibition at the International AI Art Biennale in Kraków, hosted by Bunkier Sztuki. The work took the form of an interactive generative environment in which visitors influenced the growth of digital organisms and the formation of speculative fashion silhouettes. Over the course of the exhibition, 541 unique bio-garments emerged through audience participation, making each visitor a co-creator of the evolving collection.
An early presentation of Symbiotic Couture, exhibited during the opening of FUTUREMODE - European Fashion Innovation Hub, Warsaw, 2025.

LIVING RESEARCH
Symbiotic Couture is an evolving artistic research programme rather than a completed artwork. New experiments, collaborations and biological investigations continuously reshape the project, making each presentation a temporary manifestation of an ongoing process.
